Our Advanced Ductwork Inspection Process

Our comprehensive inspection process is designed to provide a precise, data-driven assessment of your entire duct system, from the air handler to the final vent.

Step 1: Visual and Component Assessment

We begin with a thorough visual inspection of all accessible ductwork, including the plenum, air handler connections, and visible runs. We check for signs of physical damage, disconnected sections, and excessive dust or debris buildup. We also inspect the air filter and blower motor area for cleanliness and proper function.

Step 2: Airflow and Pressure Testing

Using specialized diagnostic equipment, we perform a duct leakage test to measure the exact amount of conditioned air escaping your system. This test identifies leaks that are invisible to the naked eye, often found in attics or crawlspaces. We also measure air pressure at various points to detect blockages or restrictions that are hindering optimal airflow.

Step 3: Internal Camera Inspection

For a detailed look inside the system, we use a high-resolution camera to inspect the interior of the ductwork. This allows us to confirm the presence of mold, mildew, pest infestation, or heavy debris that requires Duct Cleaning. This step is crucial for verifying the integrity of the duct walls and joints.

Step 4: Detailed Report and Optimization Plan

Following the inspection, we provide a comprehensive report detailing our findings, including photographic evidence of any issues. We then present a prioritized plan for optimization, which may include Duct Sealing to eliminate leaks or Duct Repair for damaged sections, ensuring you have a clear path to improved efficiency and air quality.

  • How often should I have my ductwork inspected?

The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends having your ductwork inspected every three to five years. However, you should schedule an inspection sooner if you have recently completed a major home renovation, have pets, notice a significant increase in dust, or have a family member with allergies or respiratory issues.

  • What are the main benefits of a professional duct inspection?

The main benefits are improved energy efficiency (by identifying and sealing leaks), enhanced indoor air quality (by detecting mold, dust, and debris), and extended HVAC system lifespan (by ensuring the system is not overworking due to poor airflow).

  • Does an inspection include cleaning the ducts?

No, a professional ductwork inspection is a diagnostic service that assesses the condition of your ducts. It determines if cleaning is necessary. If the inspection reveals excessive contamination, we will recommend a separate Duct Cleaning service.

  • What is duct leakage testing?

Duct leakage testing is a specialized process where a technician uses a calibrated fan and pressure gauge to measure the amount of air escaping your duct system. This test provides a precise, quantifiable measure of your system’s efficiency, helping to pinpoint exactly where Duct Sealing is needed.

  • Can a duct inspection help lower my energy bills?

Yes. Studies show that leaky ducts can account for up to 30% of a home’s energy loss. By identifying and sealing these leaks, a duct inspection directly leads to a significant reduction in the workload of your HVAC system, resulting in lower monthly utility bills.
